Awesome podcast guys, you are off to a great start. As a suggestion for a future, it would be cool if you could talk about several things:
1) Your favorite gaming moments,
2) Industry moves that just broke your heart.
3) Favorite games (regardless of system)
One of my favorite gaming moments is the microwave room scene from Metal Gear Solid 4 - everything just came together perfectly. Having followed Snake since the PS1, it was the most emotional button mashing experience ever.
The industry move that just made me scratch my head was the release of Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2. As great of a game as it was, with the release of the PS3 just right around the corner, I think that it would have been better to hold back and drop it as a launch title for the PS3. It would have certainly been a killer app.
Favorite games: Lunar Silver Star Story Complete, Final Fantasy Tactics, Suikoden II, Fallout 3 and Castlevania: SoTN
Good show. I bought Farcry 2 for PC and it’s got that F5 quicksave that is sorely lacking in the console version. You can save anywhere, anytime, so it’s a much nicer experience.
I’ve noticed lately that certain Xbox games are really different than their PC counterparts. Left 4 Dead on PC is really amazing looking, and 360 isn’t bad, but it’s hard to go back once you’ve seen the graphics on PC. Same with FarCry 2, I got it from Gamefly and really wanted to play through it but found that the save system kept me from playing for more than 30 minutes at a time. Now I can quicksave right before I start a mission so I don’t have to move around so much. The PC to Xbox kind of reminds me of the Super NES/NES days when they would release a game like Zombies ate my Neighbors on both platforms, but the one is clearly superior. Don’t get me wrong, I mostly game on the Xbox, but I’m pretty sure the GT9800 puts whatever is in the 360 to shame.
Anyway, good show, I also run a blog and podcast at nerdalertnerdalert.com about gaming and comic books and other nerd related goodness.
Also, I vote yes, open the Wii. There’s virtual console, and wiiware (world of goo) to be had. A few games for the Wii that are worth playing are Super Mario Galaxy, BoomBlox, and Twilight Princess, but really virtual console is the reason I turn it on.
JP-
I ended up sending it back. I think I am going to get a DS instead with Rythm Heaven and Henry Hatsworth.
