Hell Yes. DAY ONE!
Hell Yes. DAY ONE!

No one in his or her right mind would want to return to Butcher Bay after escaping only five years ago. But, we are talking about Riddick here, a bad ass who’s eyes glow. I originally played The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay back in 2004 and was blown away at what Starbreeze was able to accomplish on the Xbox. From the vivid graphical details to the innovative first person hand-to-hand combat to having a solid stealth system that coexisted with a first person shooter. The result was a groundbreaking game that didn’t make much impact on the sales charts because, “move games are suppose to suck” (I am looking at you LJN).
Five years later The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on dark Athena hits the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 with a whole new chapter of Riddick’s story as well as a completely “remastered” edition of Escape from Butcher Bay. The complete graphical overhaul puts the classic toe to toe with other visual powerhouses of this generation. The gameplay is in tact and still as enjoyable as it ever was.

The new chapter, Assault on Dark Athena will suit gamers who aren’t big fans of stealth and just like to shoot stuff while traversing interesting locations. Riddick now finds himself captured by the Dark Athena. I guess they haven’t learned that Riddick will find a way out of the direst situations and leave a mess of lifeless bodies in his path. Although the new chapter isn’t as fresh as Escape from Butcher Bay it is still an enjoyable FPS.
It is hard to complain when you technically get two games for the price of one plus the addition of online multiplayer (although no co-op). Fans of FPSs or of the Riddick Franchise will enjoy Riddick’s adventure and should seek this one out.
